Socket AM2

Socket AM2 is the end of May 2006 release of AMD’s DDR2 memory support AMD64-bit desktop CPU interface standards, a 940-pin CPU, dual-channel DDR2 memory. Although all the same CPU with 940-pin, but Socket AM2 and Socket 940 in the original definition of pins and pin with respect are not the same, and not compatible with each other. The current Socket AM2 interface of a low-end Sempron, in the end of the Athlon 64, the high-end Athlon 64 X2, as well as the top Athlon 64 FX series, such as AMD desktop CPU, support for 200 MHz and 1000 MHz FSB’s HyperTransport bus frequency, dual-channel DDR2 memory, Athlon 64 X2 and Athlon 64 FX maximum support DDR2 800, Sempron and Athlon 64 maximum support DDR2 667. According to AMD’s planning, Socket AM2 interface will gradually replace the original Socket 754 interface and Socket 939 interface, the desktop platform to achieve the reunification of CPU interface.
